We are all attached to one or another form of social networks while our real life friends are becoming just glimpses in the memory.
I was struggling with many ideas lately regarding importance of our work. Why do we spend so much time on the internet while our lives are passing by? Spending time in front of the screen when there are so many spectacular natural places just few steps out of our home?

The other side of bytes
We may still be in a search of proper usage of the internet for our private lives and emotions. But today I've felt again that very single reason why I have fallen into love with digital world. To stop creating the useless paper mess that just sits in the administrative cabinet for few years to be thrown away.
Every now and then I open that cabinet and start filtering the old useless papers. Notes of meetings with neighbors. Copies of letters I receive from the manager of our apartments house. Documents that someone sent me to let me know of some decision.
Such documents are important for a month or two in case I need to respond with some activity. Then 99% of them become useless. The 1% may be important in some time in the future when we are in dispute about the results of certain activity.
And yes, when that time arrives nobody can really find that copy of the document. Because everyone has put that paper in the trash with the other 99%.
Written words are important
In such cases it is great if anyone has a copy of the document. Because these documents are written (and signed) by a person who expressed their thoughts and intentions. From those intentions come rights and responsibilities.
So we cannot simply say that the documents are bad. No, they are still important. And always will be even when video takes them over. Because written words take longer time to be written. And the author can rethink his own thoughts.
Therefore we will always need documents.
Writing in an organized system
Yet it is important that these documents are made, saved and shared in systems that:
- provide easy searchable access
- are organized in many ways depending on the situation
- do not eat up our personal space
And this is internet. Digital age. Documents stored in the cloud are important for us.
