Creation of Symbols websites

Creating complexly interconnected websites

The outwardly simple Symbols project website hides several complex connections behind the scenes:

  • Content linked from the ARTOUR platform, where editors input content using mobile devices.
  • Content linked from YouTube channels or other video sources.
  • Content linked from Google Photos.
  • Google Maps integration to display this content based on its geographical location.

Developing a user-friendly website for an international project

Because the members of the Symbols project come from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and levels of experience, it was crucial to create a website that was simple to edit and easy to navigate.

Editors from Spain entered and managed the catalog of symbols, while editors from France, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, and Slovenia created and edited their own routes.

Creating lasting websites

The Symbols website wasn’t just meant to last for the duration of the project. We found a solution for it to continue long after the project’s completion, as its content can now be managed by members of the European Cemeteries Route.

This provided members with a useful tool and an additional communication channel, while also ensuring the sustainability of the Symbols project’s results.
